City of Bakersfield Recreation & Parks Dept The Rec and Parks Department oversees 59 parks and other various athletic facilities throughout Bakersfield.   Kern County Parks and Recreation The Kern County Parks and Recreation Department manages 8 regional parks, 40 neighborhood parks and 25 public buildings, supervises three golf courses and landscapes 76 county buildings. Kern River Valley Hiking Club The Kern Valley Hiking Club was started in 1987 by Bill and Ruby Jenkins of Kernville, CA to help people explore the splendor of the Southern Sierra’s and to promote and assist in trail development and maintenance. The group is nonpolitical and non-affiliated.   McMurtrey Aquatic Center The multi-use facility is located at 1325 Q street. The facility features an 8,551 square foot recreation pool and a 50-meter competition pool. Other amenities include a double water slide, and specially designed interactive wet play equipment.
